CREATE- Arts Infused Literacy Classrooms

In this workshop teachers are invited to actively participate in using artistic expression first – followed by meaningful language arts activities. During this intensive, three-week(6 days) workshop, teachers will have time to expand and learn new art techniques, create your own ready for the classroom units, and discover and share classroom applications. The workshop will include an emphasis on oral and written language as well as use technology to expand into the virtual world of museums with an exciting link to the Smithsonian Museum of American Art. The workshop will provide examples of how this can be used in a variety of content areas and teach or reinforce standards in your classroom. This strategy has been researched and proven to be effective in studies conducted by Project RAISE (2001); fit is highly effective for English language learners and at-risk students.
