The Barkley Memorial Center Autism Project was developed to conduct research on evidence-based interventions and assessment practices for children with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs).
There are two primary components of the Autism Project.
Project EXCEED- A small group of children with autism are included in the half-day early childhood program at Ruth Staples Child Development Lab on UNL East Campus (Monday-Friday from 7:30-12:30). In addition to the innovative and inclusive educational approaches utilized in the Ruth Staples program, children participating in Project EXCEED will receive specialized intervention. Project EXCEED will provide services to enhance the development of critical learning skills based on the individual needs of participating children with autism.
Barkley Social Communication Assessment Clinic - will provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary assessment services for young children who, through screening by their primary pediatrician or health care professional, are determined to exhibit early risk factors of an ASD. The clinic will begin limited services in fall 2009 at Barkley Memorial Center on UNL East Campus.
