The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Special Education program (SPED) offers a high quality, evidence-based program leading to a Bachelors, Masters, Ed.D. or Ph.D. degrees in special education. The program has a primary responsibility for preparing competent, caring, teachers for students with special needs for grade kindergarten-12. The program addresses the minimum requirements for a teaching endorsement in mild/moderate disabilities from the Nebraska Department of Education. |

Mild / Moderate Graduate ProgramsInitial teaching certification for those who do NOT hold any teaching certificate.For a list of required courses, see Mild/moderate disabilities K-6, 7-12 or K-12.The program offers an initial teaching certification for individuals who do not hold a teaching certificate such as individuals with a Bachelors degree in English, social work, psychology, or other areas. Classes may be taken on campus or via distance education. This program prepares educators for entry level in the teaching profession. Additional certification program for those who hold a teaching certificate in a field other than special education.This program is designed for individuals who do hold a teaching certificate in areas such as elementary or secondary education and wish to add an endorsement in special education; mild/moderate disabilities grades K-6, 7-12, or K-12. Mild / Moderate Undergraduate ProgramsThis Special Education program offers an undergraduate teaching dual major with Elementary Education preparing students to teach children with mild/moderate disabilities in grades K-6. In addition, we offer a special education major that prepares students to teach students in grades 7-12. |
