Each year during July the Nebraska Deaf-Blind Summer Institute is offered. This unique learning opportunity is co-sponsored by the Nebraska Project for Children and Youth with Deaf-Blindness, Nebraska Department of Education, Special Populations and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Barkley Memorial Center. We invite nationally recognized experts each year to focus on topics such as assessment techniques, specialized interventions, innovative resources, and techniques that can be used in school and home settings. Information is applicable to educators who work with children and youth with significant disabilities including those with sensory disabilities (for example, deaf-blindness, severe-multiple disabilities). Literach for All Learnersa) strategies for writing and reading for students with significant disabilities including those with deaf-blindness (Dr. Gretchen Hanser) b) understanding how to integrate assistive technology into reading and writing activities. (NE Assistive Technology Partnership) c) gaining family perspectives via the DB Parent Network (parent panel) d) strategies for school settings and practical solutions (d-BEST Lincoln Public School team) Two graduate credits can be earned for participants attending the full week and completing homework assignments, readings and an Action Plan. For those who will be taking the course for college credit, here is the Tuition Waiver Form to complete and submit to UNL.
