Nominate a Teacher

Nominations in the fall of 2009 begin the 23rd presentation of the Christa McAuliffe Prize for Courage and Excellence in Education to another courageous and outstanding Nebraska teacher. The University of Nebraska - Lincoln College of Education & Human Sciences invites you to help find the best candidate. The winner will receive a $1000 stipend and a specially designed plaque at a banquet on March 7, 2010. Applicants must be available to attend the banquet if selected. The winner's school will receive a $500 award to help support important school activities.

THE ON-LINE NOMINATION FORM

See above form for details. A nomination includes:

   1. A letter of nomination that addresses how the teacher exemplifies the characteristics of Ms. McAuliffe--courage, commitment to excellence, creativity, and ability to inspire. (Limit 2 pages)
   2. A resume of the nominee's professional experience and education. The nominee should participate in preparing this resume. (Limit 2 pages)
   3. A statement from the nominee of his/her philosophy of education. (Limit 2 pages)
   4. A statement from the nominee of the way in which the nominee exemplifies the four characteristics mentioned above. (Limit 2 pages)
   5. Up to eight letters of support from students, parents, administrators, fellow teachers, and community members.

The nominator must also include his/her name, address, phone number and e-mail address.  Nominations are due by Friday, January 15, 2010. The award winner will be announced after the first of the year.
