Early Childhood Positions

Early Childhood Coaching


Will teach graduate courses and conduct research related to coaching for teacher quality, other practices that support early childhood teaching excellence, and socio-emotional development. Will develop programming and create and participate in initiatives that encourage professional development in early childhood teachers in the community, particularly in rural areas

Early Childhood and Educational Neuroscience


Will support funded research, attract new graduate students, and support undergraduate programs examining brain development and injury, self-regulation, risk/resilience, and school readiness. Will contribute to the university's research portfolio as well as help to position UNL at the national/international forefront of educational neuroscience research in early childhood.

Early Childhood Academic/Reading Success (2 positions)


The Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is searching for two tenure-track faculty members (9 month positions), at the rank of Assistant Professor, with promising or established research programs and teaching experience. These positions offer a unique opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration in research and instruction related to reading interventions for young children with, or at-risk for, learning disabilities. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to, intervention design/evaluation, decoding, literate language and/or vocabulary acquisition, spelling, phonological awareness and processes, written communication, or skills necessary for academic & reading success in the early primary grades.

Early Childhood School Leadership


Will enhance our existing elementary principal preparation program—an effort to prepare elementary principals to effectively lead early childhood learning communities (P-3). Working with others, will help establish a graduate program specialization in early childhood leadership.

Infant/Child Mental Health


Will promote research that examines ways to capitalize on strengths and assets of human beings in ways that enhance education, families and/or relationships with special emphasis on underserved cultures and people. Will teach undergraduate and graduate coursework related to infant and child mental health and socio-emotional development in infants and young children, advise graduate students, develop a funded program of research and a scholarship portfolio known nationally and internationally for excellence and impact in infant/child mental health.

Early Childhood Education Mathematics


Will develop programming and participate in existing initiatives (e.g., Math Early On) that encourage professional development in early childhood teachers in the community, and conduct trainings and/or consultations with these teachers in early childhood mathematics.

Early Childhood Learning Science - STEM


Seeking a scholar with a learning sciences background and subject matter expertise (e.g., in math, science, engineering or technology) to (a) initiate and strengthen a wide array of discipline-based STEM education projects and grant proposals, and (b) transform teacher and student preparation. Will build on our department’s highly productive, long-standing commitment to the improvement of STEM teaching and learning and will support funded research, attract new graduate students, as well as support undergraduate programs involved in teacher preparation.

Early Childhood Education Extension Specialist


Will contribute expertise in the areas of early childhood care and education, child development, family engagement and education, and quality early learning environments for children birth to age 8. The incumbent will develop and deliver cooperative extension programming, conduct high impact research in federal funding priority areas, and produce scholarship related to early childhood care, health and education that will be recognized locally, statewide, nationally and internationally for its impact. Will have expertise emphasizing care and education of children ages birth to age 5. Extension programming will contribute to and complement programming that is already occurring in early childhood education and child development that is designed to help educators, parents, teachers, professionals in early childhood, and policymakers understand high quality learning environments and experiences for young children.

Children and Poverty


Will contribute needed expertise that will examine and address inequalities and/or opportunity gaps in health, wellbeing, and/or education outcomes for children and youth. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a high impact, nationally and internationally recognized program of research and Extension programming and scholarship. Develop and deliver programming that will help those living in poverty navigate the food environment in a way that promotes health, wellness, and opportunity for children and youth.

IMMIGRANT, MIGRANT AND MULTICULTURAL POPULATIONS

Community College Leadership


Will enhance our existing community college leadership program by expanding its focus to include issues facing immigrant and migrant populations, as well as ELL learners. Social Behavioral Determinants of Health for Multicultural Populations


Will conduct critical research that is relevant to Nebraska’s growing minority populations; provide expertise that informs best practices; and collaborate to strengthen Community Health Workers capacity and educational service to Nebraska’s multicultural and underserved populations. Will teach relevant courses and provide service learning opportunities in the field to better prepare students for community-based jobs.

Social Studies Education


Will attract graduate students from both a traditional social studies perspective, support our Indigenous Roots project, and will make a significant contribution to the delivery of a graduate certificate in English Language Learning. Will help increase graduate enrollments, conduct research in collaboration with UNL A&S departments, and provide outreach to rural schools. Will help incubate an academy dedicated to English Language Learner research evolving into a federally funded research center and signature program in the Big 10.

BULLYING PREVENTION

Bullying Prevention

The College of Education and Human Sciences has on ongoing commitment to reducing bullying in society. We are especially focused on school or family contexts, children’s mental health, exceptional children, neuroscience, teaching and higher education, social policy and/or translational research. Over the past decade, CEHS has supported the Bullying Research Network (BRNET), an international network of bullying prevention and intervention researchers. From that work developed the Empowerment Initiative, which supports translational research on bullying prevention and intervention. We are seeking individuals to join our team and bolster our translational research foci on youth empowerment, youth engagement and bullying prevention across homes, schools and communities.

Bullying Prevention and Intervention

MATH AND SCIENCE EDUCATION (P-20)

Mathematics and Science Education

Recent studies show that student achievement in math and science is hampered by having inexperienced and undertrained teachers in the classroom. Preschool through graduate school, teachers must know deep math and science content and processes, they must understand the specific learners they are addressing, and they must have command of appropriate pedagogy. CEHS intends to address these issues in math and science education with the following new positions.

Academic Interventions for Students with Difficulties Learning Mathematics


The Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders at the University of Nebraska Lincoln is searching for a tenure-track faculty member (9 month position), at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.  We seek applicants with a promising or established research program and teaching experience in evidence-based instructional methodologies for students with special needs.  This position offers a unique opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration in research and instruction related to curriculum and instructional methodologies, in general, and mathematics interventions, specifically, for students with or at-risk for learning disabilities.  Appointment at the associate professor level may be awarded with tenure and exceptionally qualified faculty may also be awarded with a named professorship.

RURAL EDUCATION/RURAL COMMUNITIES

Rural Communities and Rural Education

CEHS has a long history of working with rural communities. Faculty members in all seven CEHS departments are engaged in teaching, research, extension and outreach initiatives that involve 74 Nebraska counties, most of them rural. Several positions identified above are relevant to Rural Communities and/or Rural Education. In addition, the following tenure-stream faculty will help develop a deeper and broader emphasis in nutrition and fitness education and youth entrepreneurship.

Medical Nutrition Therapy/Clinical Practice


Will build relationships with rural and local clinical facilities and hospitals that can create internship and research opportunities for our students contributing to the quality of Medical Nutrition Therapy services and ultimately improved health for Nebraskans living in rural communities. Will support research capacity in the expanding dietetics graduate program to maintain accreditation and our national/international reputation in Dietetics. Will be leading efforts to ensure a complimentary curriculum with faculty in community nutrition and health and complement and collaborate with the IANR Healthy Humans initiative

Youth Entrepreneurship


Will work intensively in the area of youth development and entrepreneurship to sustain and strengthen existing programs and to develop and launch new and innovative programs aimed at youth. Will work closely with existing extension specialist and with the merchandising and product development faculty, the Engler Ag Entrepreneurship Program, the Center for Entrepreneurship (CBA), the Rural Futures Institute, and with Extension Specialists both within Nebraska and beyond its borders.

These positions replace key retirements and will help CEHS sustain current programs. Filling these positions with quality tenure-line faculty is critical to maintaining required courses, enrollment in programs, and certification and accreditation standards. Food and Beverage Management


In addition to teaching required courses, will develop connections with industry and the community to attract new students and funding support. Will coordinate Nebraska ProStart, a secondary school curriculum in culinary arts and foodservice management. Coordination activities will involve teacher development, marketing and oversight of student competitions. Will provide students with experiential learning opportunities by integrating academic scholarship with industry expectations.

Merchandising


Will collaborate with UNL and external partners to research supply chain management, multi-channel retailing, consumer behavior, product development technology, data analytics and/or small business development and entrepreneurship. Expected to grow active relationships with Nebraska-based soft goods/apparel businesses, enhance the internship program, and career placement and research program. Textiles and Material Culture


Will help sustain UNL’s dominance in quilt studies by build curricular strength in the areas of quilt studies, artifact analysis, cultural resources management, and critical theory as relevant to material culture. Genetics and Metabolic Diseases


Will develop a nationally and internationally recognized, federally-funded (including NIH) research program focused on the genetics of obesity-related metabolic diseases and nutrition. Research expertise will be in mammalian genetics, metabolic diseases and nutrition. Will also be also expected to develop and teach courses in in genetics, nutrigenomics, personalized nutrition and medicine, and/or gene regulation.
