Assistant Professor Michael Hebert, Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders, is featured in the August 31, 2015 blog "Inside IES Research," hosted by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), the research arm of the U.S. Department of Education. Hebert was previously selected as a recipient of an Early Career Development and Mentoring Grant from the National Center for Special Education Rsearch (NCSER), a division of IES.

In the blog post, Hebert is interviewed about his perspectives on challenges as a "young researcher," advice he'd share with others, what he appreciates about working with his mentor (SECD Professor Ron Nelson), and his motivation for applying for the grant.

"Working with my mentor has been invaluable," says Hebert. "We’re almost partners in the research, and he has challenged some of my ideas, while I have been able to challenge some of his, as well. This type of working relationship has really been a collaboration of sorts, and given me good experience working together with a colleague on projects."

Hebert's NCSER research grant is focused on improving reading comprehension through teacher led small groups that help students understand text structure to enhance reading comprehension. To read the blog, visit http://go.unl.edu/xgbg.
