10 Jan 2017     By Brad Stauffer

Online graduate education programs in the College of Education and Human Sciences have been ranked fourth best nationally in an annual ranking by U.S. News & World Report announced Jan. 10. CEHS jumped 10 spots from the 2016 ranking and is the highest Big Ten program ranked in the category of best online graduate education programs.

The online programs in CEHS considered for this ranking are all master’s degrees:

  • Family and Consumer Science Education (Child, Youth and Family Studies)
  • P-12 Educational Administration (Educational Administration)
  • Special Education—M.Ed. and M.A. (Special Education and Communication Disorders)
  • German Language Education (Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education)

“We continue to focus on the growth and quality of our graduate programs delivered online,” said Marjorie Kostelnik, dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences. “Our online students are typically employed full-time. They expect great content using effective technology through knowledgeable, engaged and organized instructors. The recent rankings are one validation that we deliver well.”

U.S. News evaluated quality online graduate education programs based on five categories: student engagement, student services and technology, admissions selectivity, faculty credentials and training, and peer reputation.

In addition, the new online bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education in a Mobile Society (Child, Youth and Family Studies in association with Great Plains IDEA) was part of the evaluation for ranking Nebraska at number 33 nationally for online bachelor’s programs—up 53 spots from 2016.
