American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS)

As a student member you will become part of the national American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, a national organization of more than 8,000 professionals who educate and influence educators, policy makers, and others who touch the lives of children, youth and families. This organization provides members with exceptional resources related to public policy, effective education programs, and work on current national topics.

UNL Chapter of American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists

This is the student chapter of the national organization. Both the student and professional groups seek to increase knowledge regarding the application of colorants, chemicals and polymers in the textile industry, to provide practical support for research on chemical processes and to develop networks that enhance professional development. AATCC at UNL provides students with exposure to and experience with one of the world’s foremost researchers, Dr. Yiqi, Yang, whose work is recognized on both a national and international scale.

CEHS Ambassadors -

Are you proud to be a student in this college? Do you want to assist in helping prospective students and their families understand the opportunities the college offers? Then this is the organization for you. CEHS Ambassadors assist in developing awareness of the college’s programs and activities through meeting with prospective students and their families, talking with campus visitors, greeting alumni and occasionally speaking to the general public. If you are enthusiastic, outgoing, and find it easy to talk about this college's strengths this is the organization for you. Ambassador selection is a competitive process involving an application, recommendations and an interview.

Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)

The council is dedicated a successful educational experience for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities and/or students who are gifted. Joining as a pre-service teacher will provide you with opportunities for additional knowledge and professional skills prior to beginning your career as a special education teacher. This is also an excellent forum for discussing the needs and interests of exceptional children. Both graduates who are seeking seeking certification or additional endorsements in special education and undergraduates are welcome to apply. Meetings are held once a month based on the schedules of participants and the advisor.

Culinology Hospitality Management Club

The mission of the Culinology Hospitality Mangement Club is to integrate and education those who are passionate about becoming culinologists or working in the dynamic and growing field of hospitality management.

Family Science Organization

The purpose of the Family Science Organization is to assist students in establishing professional goals within the context of a specific career choice. Students will be able to explore potential career opportunities in the diverse and vibrant field of Family Science, discuss with professionals extracurricular activities that prepare them for those careers, and dovetail their educational experience with their career goals. Another major objective of the organization is to provide parents with information regarding their child's future career opportunities. Kreate $ Kidz

Kreate 4 Kidz is an organization designed to raise money for public schools in need--most notably urban schools that serve a community of diversity and often a community affected by poverty. Through this program, UNL students will meet to work on crative projects that will be collected and sold at the send of each semester. UNL students will also work with elementary students/staff/faculty to select and create these projects. This will ensure that the elementary students and UNL students become partners in their efforts to develop and use artictic talenst to produce salable products to benefit their school.

Montage

Montage is a student organization for all textiles, clothing & design majors. Monthly Montage meetings include guest speakers, planning for fashion shows and gallery exhibits, fund-raising, and purely social events designed to encourage close relationships between design, merchandising and textile science majors. Nebraska Student Speech, Language and Hearing Association (NSSLHA)

NSSLHA is a national pre-professional organization for undergraduate and graduate students interested in the study of human communication and related disabilities. Its mission aligns with that of the national group; to promote the interests of and provide the highest quality services for professionals in audiology, speech-language pathology, and speech and hearing science. In addition the group advocates for people with communication disabilities. Both graduate and undergraduates are welcome to join. By joining, students can receive professional publications, reduced registration fees at selected state and national conferences, opportunities for community service and eligibility for the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association conversion program at the end of the graduate career. The group meets twice a month during the fall and spring semesters. Membership is open throughout the school year and applications are available at the Barkley Center.

Nebraska Students for Young Children (NSYC)

Open to all students in early childhood education, membership is NSYC is an excellent opportunity to develop a professional network, refine leadership skills, and gain career information while enjoying the company of other students who are interested working with young children. Members of this group are strongly encouraged to join the National Association for the Education of Young Children, an excellent professional organization dedicated to improving children's lives through focusing on quality educational and developmental services for children from birth through age eight.

Nutrition and Health Promotion Association (NHPA)

Nutrition and healthy choices are central dimensions of a well-lived life. This organization seeks to provide it's members with opportunities to become involved in career related projects, to compliment coursework with out-of-class experiences, and to network with other professionals in the field. Open to all undergraduate students, this group is an ideal way to expand one's vision of the many choices available to dietitians, athletic trainers, or nutritionists.

Student Education Association (SEA)

The goal of this pre-professional organization for future teachers is to improve the quality of tomorrow's educators. The group meets bi-monthlyand includes acitivies such as discussionis with guest speakers, fund-raising activities, and community service projects.
In addition, as a member you will receive professional publications; be able build a supportive network of future professionals, improve your knowledge and understanding of K-12 schools and be eligible to receive Occupational Liability Coverage which covers all practicum and student teaching experiences. As a member of UNL's chapter you will also be a member of the Student Education Association of Nebraska (SEAN). To fully benefit from this organization plan to join early in the fall semester. Applications will not be accepted after Decebmer 31. Applications are available in 61 Henzlik Hall.

Student Undergraduate Middle-Level Organization (SUMO)

This student organization focuses on men and women who are in the Middle Level Education program. There are two meetings per semester. No application is necessary. Meeting dates and times are posted in Henzlik Hall and College of Education and Human Sciences Hall.

Undergraduate Student Advisory Board (USAB)

The goal of the Student Advisory Board is to provide students in the College of Education and Human Sciences with a voice in decisions related to the college, to foster positive communication between students, administrators, faculty and staff, assess student satisfaction with the collegiate experience and to support an inclusive, dynamic college environment. Members of this organization meet twice each month to plan a college-wide career fair, prepare the student satisfaction survey, discuss issues or concerns within the college, and determine effective communication venues for student concerns. Application for membership involves completing the application form and an interview with current members. Applications are due November 1 and February 1. They are available in 105 Henzlik Hall.
