POST-BACCALAUREATE TEACHING CERTIFICATES and ENDORSEMENTS in FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES EDUCATION: GRADES 7 - 12

Do you have a bachelor's degree in nutrition, human development, another area of family and consumer sciences or a related area? Do you want to expand your knowledge and job opportunities?

Every state requires licensing of family and consumer sciences teachers. In Nebraska these licenses are called teaching certificates and are issued to a person who completes approved teacher preparation programs at the graduate or undergraduate level. Once a person has obtained an initial teacher certificate, it is possible to add additional specialization areas, called endorsements, to the initial teacher certificate. Students with Family and Consumer Sciences Education certification are qualified to teach in Nebraska public and private schools for grades 7 - 12.

If you come to UNL to study family and consumer sciences education as a post-baccalaureate student, you will take a series of courses in professional education and content in FCS. Your studies will focus on the family and the use of human and other resources to build individual and family strengths. The requirements of your program would be specified by the UNL Bulletin and program documents.
