Undergrad Programs Leading to Teacher Certification
Our department offers
two certification programs leading to licensure/certification:
• Family and Consumer Sciences Education
• Inclusive Early Childhood Education: Birth to Grade 3
For new or transfer students seeking licensure/certification for
teaching in Nebraska:
Admission to the University:
Admission to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is based on a student's demonstrated
academic preparation for university-level work. All first-time students and
transfer applicants must submit an admission application, an official high-school
transcript and official transcripts from all post secondary institutions attended,
standardized test scores from the testing agency (first-year students), GED
scores (if applicable), and a $45 non-refundable application fee.
Admission to the licensure program:
After taking classes at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for at least one
year, students must apply to be admitted to the FCS certification/licensure
program. Requirements are listed below.
1. Completion of at least 6 hours in Education and Human Sciences.
2. Tentative long range plan approved by advisor.
3. Overall GPA of 2.50. Only University of Nebraska-Lincoln courses will be
used to determine GPA.
4. Demonstration of competence in basic skills (reading, writing, and math)
as evidenced by a passing score on an accepted basic skills test (PPST Pre
Professional Skills Test). |
Transferring credits
to UNL:
Some community colleges in Nebraska have articulated agreements with UNL that
allow students to obtain up to 66 hours of credit toward courses from the community
college in their degree area. Courses are equivalent in some cases and or can
be substituted for other courses at UNL. See your community college advisor for
information about those agreements.
