This program prepares students to meet the requirements
for a Nebraska Teaching Certificate and endorsement Early Childhood Education
Unified. This is a joint program with child, youth and family studies, special
education and elementary education with an emphasis on children, birth to
grade 3.
Students will:
Use knowledge of children's development and learning to provide opportunities
that support child growth and development for infants and toddlers, pre-primary
and primary school children with a range of abilities and disabilities in all
areas of learning (intellectual, communicative, physical, social-emotional,
aesthetic and adaptive behavioral).
Use an assessment process to develop, monitor, adapt and evaluate programs
for young children, birth to grade 3.
Develop meaningful, integrated learning experiences, using tools of
inquiry in curriculum (communication, literacy, mathematics, science, health,
safety, nutrition, social sciences, art, music, drama, movement, social and
cognitive). Develop and implement IFSP's or IAP's for infants and young children
with disabilities (birth to grade 3), incorporate child and family outcomes
with family members and other professionals. Understand how to partner with
families and assist them in identifying resources, priorities and concerns
in making decisions about their child's development. Respect and understand
intercultural/familial diversity. Develop communication, consulting, supervision
and teamwork skills. Gain experience in teaching children in three age groups
(infants/toddlers, pre-primary and primary).
