Family and Consumer Sciences Education

Challenging ... stimulating ... rewarding:

Family and Consumer Sciences Education students are prepared for a personally satisfying profession working with diverse individuals and families in an educational setting.

Students become competent in communicating ideas and helping diverse students learn and grow. Students learn to teach a wide variety of subjects, including nutrition, child development, family relationships, family financial management, critical thinking and reasoning.

Combining a knowledge of education, adolescent development and teaching processes with an understanding of individual and family development and family systems, students can earn a degree and become licensed teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences for grades 7-12.

Family and Consumer Sciences Education supports the development of strong teachers for Nebraska schools. The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences prepares future teachers to plan and conduct educational programs for individuals and families. They are prepared to engage in many other forms of activities, such as supporting or supervising families in real life settings.

Professionals work as teachers in private and public schools or extension. They serve in educational or preventative roles in human service agencies, serving families and communities.
