Introducing AdvancED
AdvancEd the world’s largest education community. AdvancEd is a result of the merger of the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and school improvement (NCA-CASI). The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and the National Study of School Evaluation (NSSE). AdvancEd represents 23,000 public and private schools and districts in 30 states and 65 countries and serving close to 15 million students.
What is the School Improvement Specialist Program?
An online distance graduate-level certificate program that focuses on the school improvement process. The School Improvement Program benefits you-the teacher, by preparing you as a school leader while gaining the specialist credential, allowing you to increase your skills and build career opportunities. Becoming a School Improvement Specialist also benefits your school district, by preparing for school accreditation, establishing quality research techniques, and developing a strong district team.

Course Requirements
The AdvancED School Improvement Specialist Program is a 9 credit hour program. To earn the Certificate participants must complete the following four courses through Extended Education & Outreach after admission to the program. The following courses are required for the Certificate program:
Course 1
EDAD 841
Developing Breakthrough Success with Continuous School Improvement
- Focuses on the big picture of district and school based improvement with a profile required based on your position in your setting. (3 credit hrs.)
Course 2
EDAD 842
Planning and Implementing an Action Plan for Continuous School Improvement
- Focuses on Action Planning using data from your profile and developing interventions. (2 credit hrs.)
Course 3
EDAD 843
Communications and the Impact of Change within School Improvement
- Focuses on the communication of school improvement processes with internal and external audiences and management of conflict. (2 credit hrs.)
Course 4
EDAD 844
Reflecting Upon the School/District Improvement Process for the Quality Assurance Review
- Focuses on results, evaluating the success of intervention, and preparing for the Quality assurance Review. (2 credit hrs.)
The Certificate and Graduate Degrees at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln
Students who complete the Certificate and subsequently apply for and are admitted to a Master’s or Doctoral degree program may request that the credit hours completed in the Certificate program be accepted in a graduate program of study. Acceptance of the credits earned in the Certificate program requires Office of Graduate Studies and supervisory committee approval and is not guaranteed.
On-Line Delivery and Computer Requirements
The courses required for the AdvancED School Improvement Specialist Program are delivered on-line using the Blackboard delivery platform. Participants can complete all required course work on the computer from a location of their choice. Participants should have adequate computer hardware and software as well as high-speed Internet connection.
