Family and Consumer Sciences Education

Developing a critical science perspective is the goal of Family and Consumer Sciences Education, which focuses on advanced studies in curriculum and instruction. There are two plans for this track.

One track may lead to FSC teacher certification for students who have degrees in FCS or other related areas. These students take FCS education and other education courses as well as courses in nutrition, family science, textiles and clothing and other subject matter.

The other track provides continuing education for teachers who are certified in FCS in public schools. Courses include critical issues for the beginning teacher, advanced instructional theory, and other courses. Students can select other courses in education, family science, child development, family resources, nutrition or textiles and clothing.

Following completion of a master's degree, students may begin a teaching career, continue in their current educational role, work in extension or other education-related programs.
