The University of Nebraska is committed to developing and implementing an athletic training major that is noted both within the University and within national organizations as being a program of excellence. At this time, considerable time and effort is being spent in development of an athletic training major which will meet or exceed the high standards of the University of Nebraska , the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), and accrediting bodies.

The course of study listed and the athletic training courses have been approved by the Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences, College of Education and Human Sciences, and the University of Nebraska. All of the courses are being offered in the sequence indicated in the program progression described below.

The program received accreditation from the Committee on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs (CAAHEP) in the summer of 2004 which will expire in 2009. Completion of the academic major including work experiences will make the athletic training student eligible to take the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATA-BOC) examination upon completion of the bachelor's degree.
