My research interests involve investigating the contribution of bioactive dietary components to human health and disease. I have a K99/R00 grant through NIEHS to study how omega-3 fatty acids serve as substrates for the biosynthesis of pro-resolving lipid mediators during lung inflammation caused by organic dust exposures. My long-term research goals for this project include identifying the mechanisms underlying the activities of these bioactive lipids and harnessing their pro-resolution properties to prevent inflammatory diseases. In addition, I am investigating the role of bioactive dietary components in lung repair mechanisms, immune system performance, and maternal-fetal health. These investigations are aimed at identifying how diet contributes to protection from versus susceptibility to inflammatory diseases
