My research program focuses on the regulation of cholesterol transport in the body, with emphasis on how dietary factors (such as fats, fibers, and phytochemicals) influence the transport mechanisms at the cellular and molecular levels. Specially, we have recently identified several sterol transporters in liver and small intestine that are regulated by dietary phytosterols and long chain fatty acids. In addition, we are examining the influence of dietary phytosterol composition on pancreatic sterol esterase activity and micelle formation in vitro and in vivo.
