College-Wide Scholarships and Fellowships

Clifford and Dorothy Jo Thompson Consolidated Telephone Company Educational Technology Scholarship. This scholarship is for up to $650 for tuition and fees for six hours of graduate work or $325 for three credits. This work must be taken either this summer (2004) or during the 2004-2005 academic year. Two scholarships are available for either summer 2004 or the 2004-2005 academic year. Coursework make be taken at the University of Nebraska – Kearney or the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Applicants must reside in one of the following counties: Arthur, Blaine, Brown, Cherry, Custer, Frontier, Garden, Grant, Hooker, Keith, Lincoln, Logan, Loup, McPherson, Perkins, Sheridan, or Thomas.

Chancellor’s Doctoral Fellowship ($3500 in addition to assistantship; newly admitted doctoral students are eligible) - Chancellor's Doctoral Fellowships are designed to assist departments with the recruitment of superior graduate students by adding fellowship funds to an assistantship. Chancellor's Fellows will receive, in addition to the departmental assistantship, a $3500 fellowship per year. Chancellor's Fellowships are automatically renewable for a second year, given excellent progress toward the degree. All newly admitted doctoral students are eligible.

Othmer Fellowship
- Othmer Fellowships are intended to assist in recruiting exceptional scholars who are seeking a terminal degree (i.e., Ph.D., Ed.D, D.M.A, MFA). Othmer Fellows will receive, in addition to the departmental assistantship, a $7500 fellowship per year. Othmer fellowships are renewable for up to three years, given continued excellent progress toward the degree. All graduate applicants newly admitted to a doctoral or MFA degree program are eligible for an Othmer Fellowship. To qualify, the department is expected to offer an assistantship stipend equal to the highest amount offered by the department to first-year students. The assistantship must be renewable for up to three years.

Richard H. Larson Fellowship  (to bring greater diversity to the program; $3500 in addition to assistantship) - Richard H. Larson Fellowships are designed to assist departments with the recruitment of superior graduate students who importantly enhance the diversity of the graduate population in the department and university, specifically including diversity of racial/ethnic group, gender, or age. Larson Fellows will receive, in addition to the departmental assistantship, a $3500 fellowship per year. Larson Fellowships are automatically renewable for a second year, given excellent progress toward the degree. Larson Fellowships may be offered in combination with other recruiting fellowships (e.g., Othmer or Chancellor's) where applicable.

Non-Resident Tuition Fellowship (must be a US citizen)-The Graduate Non-resident Tuition Fellowship may be offered to any full time graduate student who is a United States citizen. These students must be new to UNL.

The Eleanor Francke Fellowship.
Candidates for this award must be regularly enrolled graduate students in CEHS who are pursuing a teaching endorsement for English as a Second Language ("ESL"). Preference shall be given to candidates who have a native language other than English, who have been employed in elementary or secondary education in a country other than the United States, who have ESL teaching experience, and who have experience in the Lincoln Public Schools System.

The Beth Schmid-Hegeman Fellowship. Candidates for this award shall have expressed a desire to pursue a career in the area of preschool education and shall have demonstrated commitment to diversity and multicultural issues. Preference shall be given to candidates with native foreign language skills who have demonstrated volunteer experience in a preschool setting.

The Mary L. Mielenz Fellowship
. Candidates for this fellowship must be women graduate students in the College of Education and Human Sciences. Recipients must have earned a Master's degree in English but their doctorate studies may be in other academic concentrations within the College of Education and Human Sciences. Their intent must be to become College Instructors.

The Rosalie W. Farley Fellowship.
Candidates for this fellowship must be doctoral students who are enrolled in the Administration, Curriculum, and Instruction field of specialization. Candidates must be completing or planning to complete a dissertation which emphasizes elementary education. Candidates must be completing the residency requirement through on-campus work.

Dr. David and Mrs. Margaret Wells Fellowship. Candidates for this fellowship must be full- or part-time Postbac graduate students pursuing initial certification in middle or secondary math or seeking a graduate degree in math education . Candidates must have a Grade Point Average of 3.0 or above. Financial need shall be a criterion for this award.

Dr. Milton Beckmann Fellowship.
Candidates for this fellowship must be full- or part-time post-baccalaureate graduate students pursuing initial certification in middle or secondary math or seeking a graduate degree in math education in the College of Education and Human Sciences. Candidates must have a Grade Point Average of 3.0 or above. Financial need shall not be a criterion for this award.

Paul and Edith Babson Fellowship. Candidates for this award must be regularly enrolled in the Teachers College in Science Education. Preference will be given to the a student who has matriculated in the graduate college in science education whose record gives promise of outstanding accomplishments.

Herbert Brownell Fellowship. Candidates for this award must be regularly enrolled in the College of Education and Human Sciences in Science Education. Preference will be given to a student who has matriculated in the graduate college in science education whose record gives promise of unusual accomplishments.

Robert and Olga Kopp Memorial Student Support Fellowship. Candidates for this award must be full-time students in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education. Preference shall be given to candidates who are solely responsible for the support of dependent children or children of parents who are solely responsible for their support.

James Madison Graduate Fellowships.
For secondary social studies or American history teachers who wish to study the US Constitution. Maximum stipend is $24,000.
