Research Centers in the College of Education and Human Sciences
Within the seven departments that make up our College, you will find faculty and students leading nationally recognized research across a broad range of interests.
Here are just a few examples of how the College of Education and Human Sciences is Pioneering New Frontiers aimed at strengthening individuals, families, schools, and communities.
The Nebraska Center for Research on Children Youth Families and Schools is leading an interdisciplinary research effort to find optimal ways to promote the intellectual, socio-emotional, and behavioral adjustment of children and youth.
The Center for Instructional Innovation (CII) applies basic research from cognitive psychology, linguistics, and cognitive science to the design and evaluation of educational practices in the nation's schools. The Center maintains a state-of-the-art research laboratory on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus, which is used for conducting basic research on cognitive processes and applied research on technology-based educational interventions.
The Center for At-Risk Children's Services is a research center housed within the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders. The center is comprised of a team of experienced professionals committed to evaluating and developing services for children, families, and communities.
The International Quilt Study Center was established to encourage the interdisciplinary study of all aspects of quilt making and to foster preservation of this tradition. The IQSC's mission is two-fold: to study those past and present who have practiced the tradition, the objects they have made and the materials they have used, and to collect, conserve and exhibit quilts and associated textiles.The center houses one of the largest publicly owned collections in the world. The quilts range from outstanding early examples of American quilts to contemporary and international quilts.
The Bureau of Educational Research and Field Services is another research center within the College. It is housed within the Department of Educational Administration.
The Buros Institute of Mental Measurements has worked for more than 65 years to serve the public interest and advance the field of measurement. By providing professional assistance, expertise, and information to users of commercially published tests, the Institute promotes meaningful and appropriate test selection, utilization, and practice. The Buros Institute encourages improved test development and measurement research through thoughtful, critical analysis of measurement instruments and the promotion of an open dialogue regarding contemporary measurement issues.
