Academy for Child & Family Well Being hosting book fair Dec. 18 to benefit Nebraska Letterbox Club

15 Dec 2016

The Academy for Child and Family Well Being (ACFW) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will be hosting a book fair Sunday, Dec. 18, at the Barnes & Noble store at SouthPointe Pavilions in Lincoln. In addition to offering several free activities, a percentage of sales during the book fair will benefit the Nebraska Letterbox Club, which sends educational packages to children in Nebraska’s foster care system.

The book fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Barnes & Noble location at SouthPointe Pavilions, 2910 Pine Lake Road. There will be several free family activities offered, including visiting Santa, gift wrapping, bookmark making and temporary tattoos. Plus, anyone who mentions Letterbox at checkout will have a percentage of their sales donated to the Nebraska Letterbox Club.

Individuals are also able to support the Nebraska Letterbox Club by shopping online through Barnes & Noble from Dec. 18-23. Visit bn.com/bookfairs, and enter book fair ID 12023552 at checkout.

All proceeds for the Nebraska Letterbox Club go toward sending monthly packages filled with books, math activities, games, stationery, and handwritten letters to each child in the Letterbox program for six months. The first of the six packages for this year’s group will be sent in February. Each year, ACFW budgets about $200 per child, which covers all of the books and materials, as well as shipping costs.

This marks the fifth year that ACFW has partnered with the Letterbox Club, a program that began in the United Kingdom in 2007. The Letterbox Club at Nebraska is the only partnership in existence in the United States.
