Study Tours and Internships

An Investment in Your Career
TCD students are required to participate in a study tour or complete an internship to meet degree requirements.
Study Tour
Travel at home or abroad while earning 2 hrs. credit in TCD.
Participants in the New York study tour experience the garment district first hand
and meet professionals in the area of textile and apparel design, museum work, trend forecasting/ fashion journalism, merchandising and textile science. Students enjoy several of  New York’s cultural offerings and have an opportunity to network with alumnae.

Students can experience another culture by participating in one of our International study tours. Students meet with professionals in the field from other countries, learn industry trends from a global perspective and visit renowned museums and historic sights.
Recent trips include: Paris, Lyon, Bath, London, Florence and Milan. Future trips are scheduled for Prague, Czech Republic and China.

Internship
Students earn credits for completing a professional internship where they can apply skills and knowledge gained in coursework, practice leadership skills and network with professionals. Students have completed internships in New York, L.A., Dallas, Phoenix, Kansas City,  Minneapolis and in many cities in Nebraska. Requirements to register for TXCD 498  Internship for credit in Textiles Clothing and Design:  Credit can range from 2 to 6 credits. Students must have earned 79 credit hours and met all prerequisites as stated below:

  1. A cumulative GPA of 2.5 and a GPA of 3.0 in courses with a TXCD prefix are required
  2. Course prerequisites:
  • Merchandising - TXCD 313 and TXCD 314
  • Textile and Apparel Design – TXCD 403/803 or 416/816 or TXCD 425.
  • Textile Science – TXCD 405/805 or 406/806.
  • Textile Clothing and Design Journalism and Mass Media- TXCD 314 and TXCD  407/807or TXCD 408/808 or TXCD 410/810.

After the  student  has meets the prerequisites listed above the form entitled TXCD Internship Request Form is filled out signed by the advisor and  presented to the Internship Director with the stated documentation. At that point the form is signed and  the call number is released to the student upon request at the TXCD Office.
