Challenging Undergraduate Program
Textile and apparel designers must possess a highly acute visual sense informed by the leading aesthetic, social and technical forces of our time. In the Department of Textiles, Clothing and Design, students are offered a challenging and concentrated foundation in drawing and design, fundamentals, draping, pattern making, construction and fabric analysis, and the development of textile and fashion concepts and products, including their fabrication and presentation.

The first year Visual Literacy program focuses on visual thinking and creative problem solving and readies students for more focused study in the area of textiles and apparel. In the following years students are immersed in courses ranging from weaving and textile design to pattern making and fashion design.

Design coursework is complemented by courses in merchandising, textile science, and the historical, cultural and psychological aspects of textiles and dress. This inclusive preparation provides students with background necessary to enter a diverse array of careers in textile and apparel-related business, art and industry, including design, product development, promotion, public relations, licensing management, pattern making, visual merchandising, and free lancing as related to the textile and apparel professions.
