Specifically, we will focus on how learning takes place and how it is motivated within a variety of environments, including but not limited to the classroom. We will also examine learners in their context, focusing on such topics as disability, ethnicity and gender differences. Center for Curriculum & Instruction CURR 800s Research on Teaching and the Improvement of Instruction (3 cr) This course examines contemporary research findings from the study of teaching and instructional practices. Selected research studies will be used to accomplish two principal aims: 1) know basic principals of educational research to enable students to become consumers of educational research; and 2) understand key concepts for improving teaching and instructional practice. CURR 413Ds/813Ds Teaching English as a Second Language: Assessment of Second Language Learners Students in this course learn appropriate assessment procedures for second language learners for placement and the exit from ESL programs. CURR 861s: Education in a Pluralistic Society (3 cr) Study of educational practices and policies for people from historically oppresses groups in the United States Foundation of multicultural education. CURR 932s Contract Studies in International Education (1-6 cr) Student proposed course of studies in international education: may include field experiences, individual/group research, participation in mini-seminars. The Certificate of Completion is earned by successfully completing eight self-study instructional modules available via the Internet.
