What is the TCMasters Program? The Teachers College Masters program (TCMasters) began in 1996 as an interdepartmental masters program jointly sponsored by Teachers College and the Division of Continuing Studies. The current program acts as a clearing house for the Center for Curriculum and Instruction and the Department of Educational Administration through the Division of Continuing Studies. Certified teachers may take up to 24 hours of course work offered on-line via e-mail, web-based software, two-way television (Nebraska only) or Lotus Notes and apply these to a Master of Education with emphasis in either Curriculum & Instruction or Educational Administration (may include Nebraska administrative certification). This provides students the opportunity to take courses without having to commute to a campus or cohort site. These are not correspondence courses. All use interactive group-ware that create a virtual classroom. Students have weekly contact with other students, are able to share ideas, react to comments posted, and receive frequent feedback from faculty. It is possible to take these on-line distributed courses from any location free of restrictive meeting times. All that is needed is a computer with internet access. The courses begin and end according to the University's academic calendar and financial aid may be available to qualifying students. Currently on campus study is required of all students and can be fulfilled in two summer sessions. Please visit the department web sites for more information about their programs. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has a long history of taking its education to the student and this is demonstrated in its well developed distance programs. Distance students have support services developed especially for them such as telephone or on-line enrollment and payment, special library services, technical support, and on-line book purchasing. The Teachers College faculty are nationally and internationally recognized for their achievements and have been providing on-line education since 1994. The TCMasters program is not a masters degree in itself and students are required to enter a graduate program in either the department of Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Administration. Important information about their programs can be found on their web sites. Enrolling in a masters program begins by entrance to UNL Graduate Studies and we recommend that prospective students visit the Graduate Studies web site to learn more about enrolling. Also, other valuable information about distance learning at UNL can be found at Academic Telecommunications. View program requirements: View requirements necessary to enter TCMasters program.
