The CEHS iPod Initiative
We were looking for innovative faculty and staff members...and we found them!
The College of Education and Human Sciences has begun an exploration of portable digital media this semester. The project, called the iPod Initiative, is a collaborative exploration of portable media in teaching, learning, research and outreach. The participants in iPod Initiative represent a wide variety of disciplines and experience levels in technology. Over the course of the semester the 13 participating faculty and staff will be learning together about how to leverage the power of portable and distributed media in their work.
Orientations sessions were held to familiarize participants with their new equipment and the basics of subscribing to podcasts, recording audio, and syncing audio, photos, and video. Some faculty and staff plan to use the iPod for presenting photos and video during classroom lectures and discussions. Others plan to use the iPods for recording audio in research interviews.

Portable digital media are creating new opportunities in education. This technology is fast becoming a standard way of capturing, organizing and distributing audio/visual content. University-wide efforts are already underway to create new portals for distributing audio and visual content to support our mission (such as Podcasting Support in Blackboard and outreach media in iTunes U).
The iPod Initiative is sponsored by the Alumni Learning Technologies Center (ALTC) and the CEHS Technology Committee.
