We appreciate your interest in the graduate program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. You will find the Department of Teaching, Learning, & Teacher Education is a dynamic and intellectually stimulating place to study. We think about education broadly and deeply, and encourage you to bring your experiences and questions to your program of study. We look forward to learning from you and know that coursework and research experiences will foster growth and understandings about the nature of learners, learning, teachers, and teaching, across all participants and concerning multiple educational settings. Our intent is to provide doctoral programs that are both personalized and research-intensive. You will create either a PhD or EdD program that meets your scholarly and professional needs and goals. Working with a mentor and a supervisory committee in one of three specializations, you will develop individualized programs of study based on your past experiences and future aspirations. An active and engaged scholarly community creates the intellectual space to transform your interests and talents informing instructional leadership, teacher education, educational contexts, educational program development, curriculum, and/or research, shaping educational policy. Opportunities to collaborate with active researchers in ongoing projects greatly enhance your professional choices. Our graduates include university and college professors, community educators, superintendents of nationally visible school districts, curriculum developers and coordinators, authors of textbook series, members of statewide standards committees, educational policy makers, research team leaders, and master teachers. Put simply, our doctoral programs enhance your capacity to effect change in a range of educational settings alongside developing your own scholarship and research identity.

The Department of Teaching, Learning & Teacher Education, in conjunction with the Graduate College, offers two doctoral degrees under the Educational Studies (EDUS) major:
- Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy). The Ph.D. is designed for students seeking to conduct research in order to generate new knowledge or reform educational theory.
- Ed.D. (Doctor of Education). The Ed.D. is recommended for those whose primary interest is in the application of theory and knowledge to improve educational practice.

Both degrees are available in the Department's three broad areas of doctoral specialization
- Teaching, Curriculum, & Learning (TCL) focuses on teaching and learning processes and relations. You can develop an Area of Emphasis. a) Curriculum, Teaching & Professional Development, b) Education Policy, Practice & Analysis, c) Literacy, Language & Culture, d) School, Society & Reform or e) Teaching and Learning with Technologies. - Instructional Technology (IT) focuses on using technology as a learning tool in various educational settings.
- Internet-based Education (IBE) focuses on using the internet as a platform for teaching and learning
