Go Global Career Fair at Elmwood-Murdoch High School
Last Thursday December 11th we attended the Go Global Career Fair at Elmwood-Murdoch High School. People from different professions talked to students from 7th to 12th grade about career options for their future. Adolfo Carbon and Tamara Abella, representing the Spanish Resource Center of the Office of Education of the Embassy of Spain, gave a presentation on careers in language teaching.

Meeting in Beatrice
Last Saturday, October 11th we had our fall meeting in Beatrice, Nebraska. There were visiting teachers from Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas, the three language and culture assistants from Nebraska and other people related to the program. We had a great time enjoying our meal at The Black Crow and it was a great opportunity to get to know the new teachers and assistants and to meet up with old friends. Here are some photos.
Fall retreats.
During the months of September and October we had our fall retreats. These are the workshops that we hold annually after the first weeks of every new school year. The title of the workshops is Taller para presentar, crear y poner en comœn materiales did cticos. They have a different format in each of the three states but the objective is the same: to share experiences and knowledge, especially between new and veteran teachers. In Kansas, we had six visiting teachers from China participating in the workshop. Here are the pictures:

Orientation courses for new visiting teachers
The orientations for new visiting teachers took place during the past few weeks. Nebraska and Kansas welcomed their teachers on July 21st. The orientation in Iowa started on August 6th. Here is the group of new teachers in Iowa with John O’Connell, Responsible Officer for the program, and John Scott, World Language Specialist for Iowa Department of Education.

Carlos Lopez is welcomed in Arkansas City, Kansas
Carlos Lopez is a visiting teacher from Spain who arrived in Arkansas City, Kansas in August 2007. ArkCity.net talked to him at a banquet for new teachers.

Meetings in Spring and Fall
Every year we try to get together at least twice, in Spring and Fall. We usually organize a lunch with people from the three states: Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska. We usually have visiting teachers, language and culture assistants, school administrators, university faculty, students and people interested in the language and culture of the Spanish speaking counties. The last time 52 people met for Lunch in Beatrice on April 14th, 2007. Our next meeting will be for lunch in Omaha on October 21st, 2007. Contact us if you would like to attend.
