The Humphrey Public Library catalogue may be accessed through an online catalogue that is available at the library. The library is organized into the categories of history, local history, adult fiction, adult nonfiction, and juvenile books. The library also has a section for audio books and current magazines.

The library has a large selection of topics related to Nebraska authors and Nebraska historical figures, such as Willa Cather, Mari Sandoz, Buffalo Bill Cody, and John Niehardt. A large selection of books devoted to Husker football is also available.
Primary Materials Available
The library staff is currently trying to organize a room for genealogical materials that would be available to all patrons. This room will include obituaries, birth records, and local and regional newspaper clippings, as well as local yearbooks and the scrapbooks donated by community members.

The Columbus Public Library’s catalogue may be accessed through its online catalogue which may be accessed through the library’s computer lab.
The library’s lower level is divided into two separate rooms. One room, for general readers, is split into fiction, young adult readers, and large print books. It also holds current newspapers, magazines, and books one tape. The other room is more specifically split into sections of history, geography, biographies, theology, language, pure science, social sciences, religion, and philosophy. A computer lab also holds reference materials, encyclopedias, a copy center, and a section for local history.
The upper-level of the library holds a room for children’s and juvenile literature, and another room dedicated to art and history. This room is called the “Fine Arts and Local History Room” and holds collections of literature, fine arts, and art history, as well as a video conference room. An art gallery featuring local artists is also a part of this room.
Primary Materials Available
A section on local and county history includes yearbooks, individual scrapbooks (donated by local community members), and county centennial albums full of newspaper clippings and photographs. These items date back to the early 1900s and show the early years of Columbus, nearby Genoa, Monroe, Tarnov, and Creston.
Accessibility of Artifacts and Displays
A glass cabinet in the library holds military memorabilia that has been donated by community members. Post cards, war posters, and military awards from the Korea War and the War in Iraq are currently on display.
Central Community College
The main library on the Central Community College campus is also called the Resource Center. It holds basic research materials for the use of CCC students and instructors.

The Resource Center materials are organized onto an online library catalogue. This catalogue may be accessed through the home page of the Resource Center or at the Resource Center. The catalogue is shared with other CCC campuses, including Grand Island, Nebraska and Hastings, Nebraska. If a book or research material is not available at the CCC-Columbus campus, interlibrary loan services are available.
Scope of Archive Collections
The range of the library’s collection is meant for basic research uses. Reference materials such as dictionaries and encyclopedias are also available.

The CCC Resource Center has numerous state newspapers available. The Resource Center also has an internet database that links to many national newspaper websites.
Platte County Museum
The Platte County Museum reveals the rich historical heritage of its local and regional settlements and holds displays with materials that date back to the 1860s.

The museum’s artifacts and displays are set up chronologically and thematically.
Scope of Archive Collections
The museum attempts to capture the lives of Columbus’ early residents. The displays include:
Different forms of transportation, including a covered wagon, different eras of agricultural equipments such as tractors, an old streetcar track, motorcycles, and a car from the mid-1900s.
Different aspects of daily life, such as a school house, a drugstore, a barbers shop, and different eras of houses. One of the more impressive and authentic displays is the Gottschalk Log Cabin. The interior and parts of the exterior of this cabin have been placed within the walls of the Platte County Museum. Some of its artifacts date back to the late 1800s.
Photographs of the early settlement of Columbus, Nebraska are available for viewing throughout the museum.

All artifacts and displays are available for research purposes with the assistance of a museum staff member.
Tours / Activities
Individual and group tours are available upon appointment outside of the regular museum hours.
