While PGA professionals compete on the links, 24 University of Nebraska–Lincoln students and assistant professor of practice Shannon Rowen will work behind the scenes during the upcoming Masters Tournament at the famed Augusta National Golf Club.

The Nebraska contingent will represent the university’s hospitality, restaurant and tourism management program. They are part of the nearly 2,000 hospitality professionals who will provide services to participants, members and patrons during the tournament, April 1-8 in Augusta, Georgia.

The students will serve in a variety of roles in tournament operations. This is the third year that students from the HRTM program in the Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences have participated in the Masters Tournament.

“We are thrilled to be returning to Augusta National Golf Club with a larger contingent of hospitality professionals,” said Rowen. “This is an incredible opportunity and experience for the students in our program, and we are so thankful for our relationship with Augusta National and the many private donors who helped make this experience possible.”

Hospitality, restaurant and tourism management students have a leadership minor and can specialize in event management, club management, lodging, human resources, food and beverage management, and/or tourism. The major resides jointly in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and the College of Education and Human Sciences.
