Customizing Brain-Computer Interfaces

This study aims to understand factors impacting impacting individuals' success with using a brain-computer interface (BCI). This information is crucial for helping ensure BCI technology can be translated into the real-world setting.

Eligible Participants:

• Children aged 8-12 years old, both with and without physical movement difficulties due to a diagnosis of a neuromotor impairment, and who are without a history of seizures or implanted electronic devices (e.g., a pacemaker).
• Adults aged 19+ years with physical difficulties due to a diagnosis of a neuromotor impairment, and who are without a history of seizures or implanted electronic devices (e.g., a pacemaker).

Using Motion in Brain-Computer Interface Design

How individuals' brains process different computer displays, such as those that utilize moving images, remains largely unexplored. Therefore, the aims of this study are to evaluate how different computer displays impact brain waves, and the impacts on brain-computer interface performance.

Eligible Participants:

We are currently recruiting children aged 8-16 years old with a diagnosis of cortical visual impairment (also known as cerebral visual impairment), and/or difficulties with physical movement. We are also recruiting typically developing children. Participants must be without a history of seizures or implanted electronic devices (e.g., a pacemaker), and with English as their first language.

Factors Impacting Brain-Computer Interface Success

This study aims to unnderstand factors impacting individuals' success with using a brain-computer interface (BCI). This information is crucial for helping ensure BCI technology can be translated into the real-world setting.

Adults, 19 years and over, with physical difficulties due to a diagnosis of a neuromotor impairment who are without a history of seizures or implanted electronic devices (e.g., a pacemaker). We are also recruiting age-matched individuals without physical difficulties.
