My time at UNL was one of the best times of my life! I made lifelong friendships in both my academic classes and also from the track and field and cross country teams. Being a student-athlete allowed me to travel to places that I never thought I would go and allowed me to create long-lasting memories. Balancing sports with athletics taught me the importance of time management, communication, and hard work; all skills that I take with me today.
I also really love the city of Lincoln. It is such a fun college town, and with all the new restaurants, stores, new buildings, events, and entertainment options, it just keeps getting better and better. Not to mention, the immense amount of Cornhusker pride!
After graduation, I pursued my masters degree (also through UNL) and a dietetic internship in Oklahoma thereafter. Currently, I work as a registered dietitian specializing in bariatrics for the Norman Regional Health System in Norman, Oklahoma.
UNL gave me all the tools to succeed! To become a registered dietitian, there are very specific classes that must be taken to be accepted into a competitive internship and sit for the national registration exam. UNL offers all the coursework needed to meet these guidelines, and throughout these classes, I learned skills and acquired knowledge that is very specific to my career field. Often times, I flip open an old textbook for college to research a job-related question.
Don't be afraid to put yourself out there an try new things and meet new people! Be open to new experiences and learning opportunities, and don't be afraid to ask questions. If the answer is not right in front of you, learn to work to find it.
