Sylvia Jons is manager of generation study abroad at the Institute of International Education in New York, New York. Previously she was a Program Officer in the Fulbright Foreign Student Division at the Institute of International Education, where she developed enrichment activities for Foreign Fulbrighters. At IIE, she has also worked on the Brazilian Scientific Mobility Program and on two private STEM programs within the U.S. Student Programs Division. Prior to joining IIE in 2012, Sylvia worked at the University of Nebraska on a system-wide internationalization plan and on global engagement strategic initiatives. During this time, she completed her Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration with a focus on internationalization and was elected President of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Graduate Student body for two consecutive terms. Sylvia served as an AmeriCorps VISTA in the Office of Civic Engagement at Nebraska Wesleyan University. She studied abroad at Korea University and extended her stay in Korea working with the Asian Pacific Association of International Education. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising with an emphasis in Public Relations from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
