Celebration of Youth XXII: Work by 4-H Youth
06 Oct 2015
Nebraska youth, 10-19 years of age, will have their work showcased in the 22nd annual Celebration of Youth: Work by 4-H Youth, Oct. 12-Nov. 14 in the Robert Hillestad Gallery located in the Human Sciences Building on East Campus at UNL. Items were selected from the thousands of exhibits in the 4-H Clothing, Home Environment, Quilt Quest and Fashion Show divisions at the 2015 Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island. They range from stunning pieced quilts to garments constructed of unexpected materials to one-of-a-kind sculptural art forms.
On Saturday, Nov. 14, the Department of Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design will host an afternoon of workshops for the exhibiting youth and their parents, culminating in a public program for the exhibition's closing, beginning at 3:00 p.m. in room 11 of the Human Sciences Building . Each of the exhibitors will present an "elevator talk" about her/his project, and the Friends of the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery will present monetary awards to each student maker. The Hillestad Gallery will be open that Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., during which time the public is invited to view the exhibition. Jurors for this year's edition of Celebration of Youth included Professor Michael James, TMFD Chair, and alumni Sarah Trausch Hoops of Hastings, NE and Megan Berry of Kearney, NE.
