Michael James, chair of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design, has one of his creations on exhibit at the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia. His digitally-developed and digitally-printed wall quilt is part of the U.S. Department of State’s ART in Embassies program. His piece is titled “The Forgetting.” A description of Dr. James’ quilt can be found in an attractive brochure about the Tbilisi exhibit.

The ART in Embassies program was inspired in the Kennedy Administration and was established in 1963. ART curates temporary and permanent exhibitions for the representational spaces of all U.S. chanceries, consulates and embassy residences worldwide, selecting and commissioning contemporary art from the U.S. and host countries.
