Discover CYAF: Meet first year grad student Ashley Montag

04 Oct 2018     By Katie Ballue

Welcome to Discover CYAF, a series that spotlights some of the talented and passionate people who come through the Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

What is your name?

Ashley Montag

Where are you from?

Scottsdale, Arizona

Where did you get your undergrad?

Arizona State University

What brought you to this department and this university?

I worked for a few years at the university after I graduated from Arizona State and I fell in love with the community. When I decided to go back to grad school, UNL was at the top of my list, and my experience working here, combined with quite a few program recommendations from friends, sealed the deal!

What have you enjoyed most so far during your time in this program?

I'm just starting my first year, but I've really enjoyed all of my interactions with the faculty so far.

What do you do for fun?

Lots of things! Reading, writing, outdoor adventures, and hosting friends at my house for anything and everything (brunches, game nights, dinner parties, etc.) are definitely at the top of my list.

What do you plan on doing when you finish this program?

I'm not exactly sure at this point, but I would like to work as a therapist in a private practice. I am interested in working with populations that suffer from sexual addictions and/or trauma from sexual abuse.

What do you see yourself doing in 10 years?

I don't know what will happen in two much less 10 years!
