Eric Unrau Awarded National Child Care Teacher Award

Eric Unrau, CYAF Lecturer, is a 2016 recipient of the Terri Lynne Lokoff/Children's Tylenol National Child Care Teacher Award. This award acknowledges the critical role of child care teachers in providing quality early care and education.

Eric is one of 50 teachers across the country to win the award, which demonstrates his commitment and dedication to the children he serves. His award-winning project, titled "Woodworking," teaches children through hands-on experience with woodworking tools. Children learn teamwork, problem solving, physical skills, develop literacy skills through the use of a project journal, and learn new vocabulary. Eric believes the most important skill the children learn is the ability to persevere.

According to Eric, "In our new woodworking area, I see children working to hammer nails into a tree stump for over ten minutes or sawing a section of wood and then that child who is sawing asks another child to help them complete the task. Woodworking activities can help children learn and grow in each developmental domain most effectively and completely and best of all, having fun doing it!"
