Summer opportunities in Nebraska Extension for CYAF students

Summer opportunities in Nebraska Extension for CYAF students

17 May 2018

There are a few amazing summer opportunities for both undergraduates and graduate students. The following opportunities are through Nebraska Extension.

Omaha Imagine Science

    1. IMAGINE SCIENCE (Omaha, NE): Extension is in need of a BS in education/youth development to be a summer front-line staff person, delivering STEM content,  with Imagine Science in Omaha.

Imagine Science is part of a national STEM outreach program that stretches from California to Nebraska and Texas that focuses on an informal learning process through relationships and the community around kids in North and South Omaha. For more information, click here.

    2. INTERNSHIP:  There is an opening for 2-3 college interns to gain Extension experience (variety of tasks including teaching, events, etc.) in Douglas-Sarpy County. For more information, contact Dr. Maria de Guzman.

    3. CONSERVATION MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP.  Mentors will receive $2000 for their work, a stipend for food, a rental car and accommodations throughout the program.  In exchange, they are expected to mentor the youth in this two-week, hands on learning experience traveling across NE from Cherry to Douglas Counties.   At each of the stops along the way (and I think we have 7 – 8 activities identified) they will connect with the organization (Games and Parks) staff who has planned activities for the youth to participate in. Successful mentors will need to be comfortable with HS age youth (we are targeting rising juniors), comfortable driving, willing to role model a willingness to get dirty and sweaty and be the responsible adult in the room with these young people.  Looking for both a male and a female, each of which would be working with three youth.
