Textbook Examination and Desk Copies

Most textbooks are available online from publishers as digital exam copies, and instructors are encouraged to use this method when considering several textbooks. The Department receptionist can assist with publisher contact information.

Instructors selecting a textbook(s) for class may request a desk or complimentary copy of adopted texts from publishers. A request should be made to the Department receptionist either by e-mail or on the textbook order form and should include the course number, name of the course, estimated enrollment, and ordering decision date.

If the instructor’s desk copy does not arrive before classes start:

  • Contact the department receptionist so records may be verified and the publisher can be contacted to send another copy.
  • If the publisher cannot send the text copy before the start of classes, permission to purchase the book from the University Bookstore must be granted by the department receptionist.
  • When purchasing from the University Bookstore, please ask for a receipt and turn it into the Office Supervisor immediately.
  • If the publisher sends a new copy of the textbook, please return the textbook with receipt to the University Bookstore so a credit can be charged to the department.
