David J BulinSecondary Education- Science

2006
My educational endorsement required me to take a variety of science courses. I really enjoyed how many of the instructors incorporated stories and analogies that involved their past or present research into their teaching. It added life to the content in the course.
My career was delayed a year due to a military deployment overseas. While I was away one of my professors from CEHS kept in touch and encouraged me to apply for a teaching position he thought I would be good for. I have been a science teacher at a high school in Omaha since.
I had a great mentor and several supportive instructors that wanted to make sure you were in the right place as a starting career or helped you head in a different direction that might be a better fit. When I was doubting what kind of teacher I would be, my teaching mentor sat me down and explained what he saw in me as a future teacher. That compassion from UNL's instructors made me feel like I wasn't just a number there.
There are a lot of programs and opportunities outside of your classes available to you. Make sure that you explore new experiences. Go to events at the Riepma Ross Theater, see a guest speaker at the Union or take an exercise class at the rec center.
