Karibu! (Welcome!)

The Forced Migration & Health Research Lab aims to promote the health and wellbeing of refugees through collaborative, community-engaged research. Dr. Tippens has broad training in qualitative health research and draws on theories and methods from multiple disciplines (e.g., public health, medical anthropology, political science, social work) to inform her work.

Although her research focuses on East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania) and the U.S., Dr. Tippens enjoys working with students whose interests may include different geographic regions or populations affected by forced migration (e.g., asylum seekers, internally displaced persons). She is committed to training students through both coursework (e.g., CYAF 493/893, CYAF 811, CYAF 982) and mentored research experiences pertaining to migration and health.
