Jha presents at Corvinus Business School in Hungary

Dipra Jha, assistant professor of practice in Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management in the College of Education and Human Sciences, delivered a presentation at the Corvinus Business School in Budapest, Hungary as part of the school’s Science Café public lecture series. The Oct. 24 event was attended by students and faculty from Corvinus, as well as industry professionals.

Jha honored by ODK

Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) the national leadership senior honor society's Nebraska Circle has named Dipra Jha, assistant professor of practice in Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management, as Professor of the Month. The Circle class, led by Chapter President Brendan Gallo, held an event on Sept. 22 to recognize Jha for being an outstanding educator.
 
Hannah DeMaro, member of ODK and a senior in Hospitality, Restaurant, and Tourism Management, was part of the group that recognized Jha in their formal attire.

Jha delivers keynote at tourism conference in India

Dipra Jha, assistant professor of practice in Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management, recently traveled to India to deliver a keynote presentation at the International Conference on Tourism, Hospitality and Aviation. The event was hosted by Amity University Sept. 2-3 in New Delhi, India and inaugurated by Dr. Mahesh Sharma, India’s Tourism Minister. More than 800 scholars, government officials, students and industry professionals from around the world attended the conference.

Rowen appointed to Lincoln Personnel Board

Shannon Rowen, assistant professor of practice in Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management, has been appointed to the city of Lincoln personnel board by Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler. The Lincoln City Council approved the appointment Aug. 15.

The five-person board meets monthly to advise the mayor, city council and human resources director on matters concerning personnel and human resource administration. The board also reviews HR rules and regulations, conducts hearings and hears city employee appeals. The appointment is effective through June 22, 2021.

Hamouz honored by restaurant association

Fayrene Hamouz, associate professor in Nutrition and Health Sciences, has been recognized with a lifetime achievement award from the Nebraska Restaurant Association. She received the award at the association’s 27th Annual Taste of Nebraska banquet April 18 in LaVista, Nebraska. Hamouz has been active in the association’s activities for many years and serves on the Hospitality Education Foundation Board and is a leader for the organization’s Nebraska ProStart Program that provides hospitality industry training and exposure to high school students across the state.

UNL students intern at golf’s grand stage

A dozen students in the Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management program are in Augusta, Georgia this week serving as interns at the famed Masters golf tournament. They will be greeters, valets, servers, point of sale operators and supervisors.

UNL to collaborate with Oman Tourism College

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has signed an agreement with Oman Tourism College to facilitate academic collaboration between the institutions.

The memorandum of understanding establishes a partnership in teaching, research, student exchange, faculty exchange, technology transfer, publication, curriculum development, joint projects and training.

Dipra Jha, assistant professor of practice in the Hospitality, Restaraunt and Tourism Management program, was invited to address members of the Nebraska City tourism group Destination Development Jan. 28 in Nebraska City. The workshop was a brainstorming session to develop strategies for the future of tourism in the southeast Nebraska community.

UNL Parents Association recognizes HRTM faculty

Dipra Jha and Shannon Rowen, both assistant professors of practice in Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management, were recently recognized by the UNL Parents Association and the UNL Teaching Council for their contributions to students. They were honored during the 28th UNL Parents Association recognition reception on January 29, which celebrated faculty and staff who have made significant difference in the lives of students.
