Mission Statement of the UNL Didactic Program in Nutrition and Dietetics

The mission of the Didactic Program in Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is to provide a challenging and high quality curriculum which prepares graduates to successfully enter an accredited dietetic internship program and become registered dietitians.  Graduates will be academically and professionally prepared to effectively work in a variety of employment opportunities which will address the nutrition and health needs of individuals, families, schools and communities and ultimately enhance the lives and well-being of the clientele they serve.

Didactic Program in Nutrition and Dietetics (DPND) Program Goals and Objectives/Measures

Goal 1: Provide a high quality education program and advising support for admission into and success in completing a dietetic internship program and/or post-baccalaureate program.

Objectives/Measures Monitored to Determine Extent of Goal Achievement:

  • Percentage of students enrolled in the professional courses in the third year of the program completing the degree requirements and/or DPND program requirements within three years.
  • Percentage of DPND students meeting the requirements for attainment of the Verification Statement who apply to supervised practice programs within 12 months of completing the DPND program
  • Percentage of DPND graduates applying to supervised practice programs within 12 months of completing the DPND program who are successfully matched to a program.
  • Success rate in the placement of first time applicants into a post-baccalaureate program.
  • Percentage of students completing dietetic internship and/or post-baccalaureate programs indicating that their undergraduate education prepared them to successfully meet the demands of the program.
  • Percentage of dietetic internship directors contacted indicating that graduates of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln DPND program are prepared to succeed in the dietetic internship program. 

Goal 2:

The program will contribute to the number of professionals working in nutrition and food related careers in Nebraska and beyond its borders.

Objectives/Measures Monitored to Determine Extent of Goal Achievement:

  • Percentage of program graduates over a five-year period successfully passing the Registration Examination for Dietitians on the first attempt.
  • Of those graduates seeking employment in nutrition and food related careers upon completion of the Didactic Program in Dietetics requirements, percentage successful within 12 months of program completion.
