Dr. Gabas graduated with her doctoral degree from Florida State University. Her research interests broadly center on questions regarding language and literacy development in children who are at risk and from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. More specifically, she is interested in how young children, including those from diverse backgrounds, develop the component skills necessary for writing.
Accordingly, her work and research experience are organized around the two main themes: 1) identifying and describing instructional strategies to support written language acquisition and development; and 2) characterizing the intrinsic and extrinsic factors related to the literacy outcomes of children at risk, particularly children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
