Increasing evidence shows a link between obesity, diabetes, metabolic disorders and liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma). In my previous work, I developed mouse models for these two cancers and my current research interests involve understanding the link between obesity, diabetes and liver cancer. To this end, I will be exploring the impact of high fat diet on liver cancer initiation and progression, with a focus of cell signaling as well as the detection of metabolic biomarkers in these mice that relate to obesity, diabetes and liver cancer. My plan is to study both hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma through the use of mouse models as well as human samples and epidemiology research.
