Principal Investigator - Dr. Julie Tippens

Dr. Tippens is a community-engaged global health researcher and an assistant professor in the Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies. She is broadly trained across the health and social sciences and has worked with refugees as a practitioner and researcher in the U.S., Southeast Asia, and East Africa for more than 15 years. Her current projects center on refugees’ wellbeing and resilience in Kenya, Tanzania, and the U.S.

As a community-engaged researcher, Dr. Tippens works collaboratively with stakeholders representing community coalitions, nongovernmental organizations, and intergovernmental agencies. She blends ethnographic, participatory, and visual methods to understand how individuals and communities make sense of and cope with the challenges of forced migration.

Dr. Tippens has presented her work internationally and her research has been published in journals such as Qualitative Health Research, the American Journal of Health Promotion, and the Journal of Immigrant and Refugee Studies.
