Barkley Speech Language and Hearing Clinic resuming speech and language services via telepractice June 8

The Barkley Speech Language and Hearing Clinic is resuming its speech and language services for all ages June 8. Most services will be conducted via telepractice through at least July 31.
The clinic, which has been closed since March 16 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is opening for both new and existing clients who are able to receive speech and language interventions through telepractice. Anyone interested in scheduling a consultation or appointment should call the clinic at 402-472-2071.
“We are very happy to begin providing services to clients again, and are pleased that we can do it in a manner that protects clients, faculty, and graduate students,” said Kristy Weissling, speech and language clinic coordinator and associate professor of practice. “We are going to have a tremendous summer in this new format.”
In addition to individual services, the Barkley Clinic is also offering its SPEAK OUT!® and The LOUD Crowd® program through telepractice for the summer. The SPEAK OUT!® and The LOUD Crowd® program provides individual speech therapy (SPEAK OUT!®) and group speech therapy (The LOUD Crowd®) for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease who are at risk of developing a weak voice that can lead to serious speech and swallowing issues.
After the clinic closed in mid-March, clinicians and graduate students in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s speech-language pathology program developed a webpage featuring clinical activities to implement at home for individuals who were unable to receive their usual speech and language services. New resources have been added to the page in the ensuing months, and the page will continue to be updated even as the clinic reopens for telepractice.
