Matthew Bentz honored with CEHS Staff Star Award

Matthew Bentz, senior computer support analyst in the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders, has been named the recipient of the latest Staff Star Award by the College of Education and Human Sciences Staff Council.

In his role, Benz is responsible for server administration, maintenance of clinical HIPAA networks, management of classroom and lab computers, network printers, clinic observation systems and computer support for faculty and staff in the department. His additional expertise ranges from providing graphic design for outreach programs, to JavaScript programming for research projects in Qualtrics, and creating PDF AcroJS applications for graduate students to assist child patients.

“Speech-language pathology and audiology master's students literally could not address the clinical needs of child patients without his computer knowledge and the types of programs he invented to help clinicians in their therapy,” wrote one nominator. “Matthew will even go farther to help any student—whether a worker, graduate assistant, or just attending classes—when they have computer issues.”

Bentz is readily available to help instructors who experience technical difficulties while teaching. Construction at the Barkley Memorial Center has led to increased challenges with technology. Bentz has been able to quickly respond to requests and assist with any internet, video, audio and other computer issue.

“Matt Bentz, has had a meaningful impact on faculty teaching and their research throughout the many years he has been employed at UNL,” wrote one nominator. “He is a solid, collegial, and dedicated person to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, College of Education and Human Sciences, and Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders.”
