The Student Academy of Audiology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will host its Sixth Annual Huskers for Hearing 5K Fun Run to benefit HearU Nebraska Saturday, April 7, on East Campus.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. on the East Campus Loop. In addition to the 5K, there will be a silent auction with items from various area businesses. In addition, for the first time in its history, the Huskers for Hearing 5K features a virtual option for individuals who would like to participate but are unable to attend the event in Lincoln.

“We’ve had several people over the years express interest in participating in the event, but it doesn’t always work into their schedules. We added the virtual option to allow everyone who wants one a chance to run,” said Kelly Pritchett, associate professor of practice and Student Academy of Audiology adviser.

Online registration for the 5K on campus is available at https://go.unl.edu/huskersforhearing. Cost to participate is $35 for individuals ages 8 and older and includes a water bottle. Children ages 7 and under are free, but the cost is $7 if they would like a water bottle. Participants may also register the morning of the 5K with cash or check payments.

Individuals who wish to participate in the virtual fun run may register online at https://go.unl.edu/virtual5k. The virtual run, which has a $40 registration fee and also includes a water bottle, may be completed anytime the weekend of April 6-8. Participants are asked to email photos of their distance tracking devices to unl.saaudiology@gmail.com

Proceeds from the Huskers for Hearing 5K and the silent auction at the event benefit HearU Nebraska, a non-profit organization that provides hearing aids to children across Nebraska birth to 18 years of age who might not otherwise be able to afford them. Additionally, proceeds will assist the UNL Student Academy of Audiology by providing travel grants for members to attend professional conferences.

Another fundraiser for HearU Nebraska is scheduled for 5-9 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at Yogurtini Lincoln, 233 N. 48th St, Suite J. Yogurtini will donate 15 percent of sales during the four-hour timeframe to HearU Nebraska.

HearU Nebraska is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2018. Since its inception in 2008, the organization has provided 648 hearing aids to 384 individuals in 75 communities across the state of Nebraska.
