A juried exhibition of fiber art, surface design and apparel design is on display in the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery on East Campus through April 22.

The exhibit features the work of 19 artists from across the country who submitted their designs as part of the competitive process. 114 works of art were submitted and reviewed by Robert Hillestad, emeritus faculty of the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design. Hillestad selected the work for the show based on creativity, originality, craft and innovation.

The winners of the exhibition were awarded cash prizes. Taking home the top prize of $500 was Dong Kyu Kim, a Korean-American artist from New Jersey. Kim crafted a “hanbok,” or Korean robe constructed of receipts he collected when he first immigrated to the United States. Other artwork on display in the gallery includes a cyanotype image of the German City Church in Nebraska by Omaha artist Anette Guy, and a portrait sewn from human hair by Rosemary Meza Des-Plas of New Mexico.

The Hillestad Gallery is part of the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design in the College of Education and Human Sciences. The Gallery is located on the second floor of the Human Sciences Building on East Campus, and is open to the public Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
